Almost always a worn ball joint, sway-bar end link, control-arm bushing, or strut mount. Each makes a slightly different noise, and on the lift we can isolate which one has play by hand-checking the joint. It's usually a single small part — not the whole front end.
Yes, when we replace anything that affects geometry — control arms, tie rods, struts, ball joints. A fresh alignment ensures the new parts wear evenly and the car tracks straight. We include alignment in the quote when it's required.
Yes. A leaking or worn strut can't control rebound, so the tire bounces under load and wears in scalloped patterns called cupping. Cupping never reverses — once you see it, you replace the strut and the tire. Catching the strut early saves the tire.
Loose play in the steering usually traces to worn tie-rod ends, a worn steering rack, or a loose pitman/idler arm on older trucks. Wandering after the wheel goes light over a bump points at strut mounts, sway-bar bushings, or alignment that's drifted. We confirm on the lift.
When both struts on an axle are the same age and only one has failed, the other one is usually close. Replacing them as a pair keeps the ride balanced and avoids paying labor twice within a year. We'll tell you whether one or both is the honest call.
